Although it started back in 2008 as a bit of fun for staff and customers at The Local Taphouse, today the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beer polls runs in Australia and New Zealand, and sees thousands of beer lovers across both countries vote for their five favourite beers of the year then enjoy the countdowns on Australia Day and Waitangi Day respectively.

The Hottest 100 Craft Beers has also become a proven sales driver and influencer for the industry. As an example, after taking the Australian poll by storm in 2016, Adelaide’s Pirate Life Brewery saw a staggering increase in sales, reportedly opening some 250 new accounts in the wake of the results.

In addition to the Hottest 100, lists are also announced for the Hottest New Beers and Hottest Indie Beers for both Australia and New Zealand. If you’re interested in the 2015 results, check out this excellent analysis from The Crafty Pint.

Voting is now open for both the Aussie Craft Beers and Kiwi Craft Beers polls.

It’s not too late to register!

With so many new breweries and beers in Australia and New Zealand, we rely on each brewery ensuring that their own eligible beers appear in the poll voting form.

As people are voting for their five favourite beers of the year, we ask that you enter all of your beers that were available for sale at any time this year, no matter your brewery's size, batch size or distribution reach. Here’s how:

  • Visit
  • Register your brewery or login if you have an existing account
  • If you've forgotten your password, visit this link to request a new password
  • Update your product range to include all beers that were available for sale in 2016
  • Please ensure all other information on your brewery page is up to date and accurate

Once updated, your beers will then be included in the voting forms for the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beers polls for Australia and New Zealand. Please note that it can take up to two hours for the beers to appear in the voting form, but please let us know on if they don’t come through.

As well as the being in the running for the Hottest 100 list, your beers may also be eligible for our sublists - the ‘GABS Hottest Indie Beers’ and ‘GABS Hottest New Beers’.

Make your vote count.

Be sure to vote for your own beers (as well as any other favourites).

Every voter also has the opportunity to win a VIP experience for them and ten mates at GABS Beer, Cider & Food Festival in 2017, plus a free membership to The Crafty Cabal.

Head to to place your vote.

Host a Hottest 100 Countdown event.

On Australia Day (AUS) and Waitangi Day (NZ), craft beer fans can follow the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beers official countdowns at events around the country, supported by live podcasts and social media. Be part of the fun by incorporating the countdown into your Australia Day and Waitangi Day celebrations (or in the days following).

This year, we’re also introducing:

  • #HOTTEST100BEERS SOCIAL SCREEN. A livestreamed social media feed where people all over the country will be encouraged to share photos of themselves enjoying Australian and New Zealand craft beer during the countdowns. This weblink can be easily displayed on any screen or device that can show a live webpage (eg. Apple TV, ChromeCast or internet enabled TV).
  • HOTTEST 100 BEERS SWEEP GAME. In the same style as a Melbourne Cup Sweep, this new and easy game offers everyone an opportunity to get involved and have some fun with the countdown. We’ll provide you with the Sweep Kit and you can use it to stage your own sweeps comp with whatever prizes you wish to offer.

Here’s what to do...

Decide what you’d like to do on the day and register your interest by completing this form (for Australia) or this form (for new Zealand) as soon as you can.

We’ll list your event on the Hottest 100 webpage, and help promote your event to our extensive audience.

And closer to the day, we’ll send you the Social Screen link, Sweep Game and a blank Hottest 100 Results Poster if you want to fill in the results live.

After the event, we’ll also send you a link to a designed Results Poster if you would like to display this as well.

Join us in celebration of great craft beer.

More than any other beer awards, the ‘people’s choice’ nature of the GABS Hottest 100 Craft Beers poll makes it an incredible platform to engage craft beer lovers around Australia and New Zealand.

We’d love to chat to you about partnership opportunities as we grow the poll further in the years ahead.
